Synopsis

Bedtime Inspirational Stories celebrates the achievements of the amazing black women and men who have paved the way for future generations.

Reflections

Many of the books we read to our children are of fictional characters who were heroic and admirable for various reasons. Bedtime Inspirational Stories tell 50 awesome stories of real people from the past and present who broke barriers and serve as role models for all of us. The most amazing part of this book is that all of the people featured are Black or “Brown like me” as Madison would say.

As Madison and I read our bedtime story, I glanced at the names of history making Blacks and realized the list has grown extensively since I was a little girl. Typically, we hear of the Martin Luther Kings and the Harriett Tubman’s. Well, Bedtime Inspirational Stories also helps us to remember the works of living legends such as Christopher Gardner and Oprah Winfrey.

L. A. Amber did an outstanding job challenging negative images portrayed about Blacks by highlighting meaningful quotes of our ancestors and living legends.

Many of us unconsciously internalize these negative stigmas which hinders us from reaching our greatest potential. Amber closes the book by giving us positive affirmations and encourages us to say them aloud. Madison and I practiced saying our affirmations before bed. The more I read, the more I felt empowered to accomplish each and every one of my goals.

If our ancestors accomplished their goals in spite of the obstacles they had to face, we can too.

I challenge you to live a life that will one day have your name added to a list of notable Blacks.

Peace, love, Ash
